How the Netherlands' most notorious gangster could be convicted by his own sister - but will he get revenge?

“My brother is going to kill me.” Astrid Holleeder is deadly serious. If we were characters in a TV detective series, the cameras would pick this moment for a close-up of a single tear tracking down her cheek.

But this is real life, and though 52-year-old Astrid is a household name in Holland she is an unknown face, living in hiding as the star prosecution witness in the on-going trial of her older brother, Wim â€" the Netherlands’ most notorious gangster.

Dubbed a knuffelcrimineel, or “celebrity criminal” by the Dutch press, Wim has occupied a Kray- or Capone-like presence in the country’s consciousness since masterminding the sensational kidnap of Freddy Heineken, the brewing magnate, in 1983....
