In the afternoon of March 26, in the city of La Haye (Netherlands), the National Assemblyâs Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan received the Deputy Director of the Staff of the Delta Programme Commissioner Hermen Borst
She expressed her pleasure at the meeting, the Chairwoman of NA considered that the Strategic Partnership on Climate Change Adaptation and Water Management signed in 2010 between the two countries is an effective cooperation model which exploiting the inherent strength of the Netherlands and contributing to sustainable development of Vietnam.
It is known that the Netherlands has a lot of experienc e in agricultural development and climate change response, the NAâs chairwoman expressed her hope the Netherlands to share its experiences with Vietnam in the sustainable development of the Mekong River Delta, including the strategy development as well as financial mobilization, etc.
Being agreed on the view that Vietnam and the Netherlands have similarities when both sides have to face with the consequences of climate change, the Deputy Director Hermen Borst has shared the experience of the Netherlands in this area. Accordingly, the Netherlands issued the Delta Law. In implementation of this law, the Netherlands has appointed a position of Delta commissioner who is responsible for monitoring strategies to deal with issues related to protection of water resources and responding to climate change, before submitting to the Parliament for consideration to distribute long-term and sustainable financing. With the experience of climate change and water conservation, the Deputy D irector Hermen Borst wishes to accompany Vietnam in this field.
